SAC Names Four New Partners

The Law Offices of SAC is pleased to announce that it has named four new partners. Each has extensive trial and litigation experience on behalf of its clients; has consistently demonstrated leadership skills, healthcare industry service and educational involvement; and represented the highest standards of professional conduct and ability.

DAVID MASTAN

Mr. Mastan joined the firm in 2014 as a Senior Trial Attorney in the firm’s Southern California office. His is focused on representing major California acute care providers in state and federal civil actions, arbitrations, mediations, settlement negotiations and other reimbursement disputes between health plans and healthcare providers. He has been a member of the California State Bar since 1991 and is admitted to practice before each Federal District Court in California, including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

KARLENE ROGERS-ABERMAN

Ms. Rogers-Aberman joined the firm in 2005 and serves as one of the firm’s two supervising attorneys/team leaders in the Litigation Department.  As such, she first chairs trials and arbitrations as well as manages a team of litigation attorneys in representing health care providers in arbitrations, mediations, and state and federal court proceedings against health plans, insurance companies, and the government.   In March 2003, Business Week magazine featured Ms. Rogers-Aberman in an article concerning her passion for mentoring young people. She has also met the stringent requirements of the Southern California Super Lawyers.

CHRISTOPHER HAPAK

Mr. Hapak joined the firm in 2010 as a litigation associate in the firm’s Southern California office. He focuses on complex civil litigation, specializing in healthcare litigation and insurance coverage issues. He represents major California healthcare providers in state and federal civil actions, mediations, and arbitrations against health plans, insurance companies and government entities.

SHADI SHAYAN

Ms. Shayan joined the firm in 2010 as a litigation associate in the firm’s Southern California office. She specializes in complex civil litigation, specializing in health care litigation and insurance coverage issues. She represents major California health care providers in state and federal civil actions, mediations, and arbitrations against health plans, insurance companies, and government entities. Ms. Shayan was named a “Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Star” in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Concurrent with the naming of these four new partners, SAC also announced that current partners Richard Lovich and Barry Sullivan have been elevated to senior partners of the firm.

  • Lovich is SAC’s managing litigation attorney. He joined the firm in 2005 as senior trial counsel on litigated and arbitrated cases involving healthcare providers seeking proper and full reimbursement from network health plans, self-funded ERISA plans and governmental entities. He is responsible for litigation management and trial readiness of all cases from the pre-litigation stage through trial or arbitration.
  • Sullivan joined the firm in 2005 as senior trial counsel and now heads the firm’s Litigation Department. Specializing in complex contract disputes, he spearheads the firm’s efforts at the trial court and appellate levels on behalf of the health care provider community in the United States.
