SAC Firm History & Background

SAC was founded in 1989 by Joy Stephenson-Laws, who currently serves as Managing Partner of the firm. Richard Lovich serves as Co-Managing Partner, along with partners Karlene Rogers-Aberman,  David F. Mastan, Christopher Hapak, and Shadi Shayan, and retired Senior partner George Colman, who are all highly respected members of the healthcare legal community.

SAC currently employs more than 100 people with offices in California and Illinois. The law firm’s full-time professional team includes attorneys, nurses and physicians. The firm staff has extensive experience in all areas of law related to healthcare matters. SAC’s partners have more than 100 combined years of legal experience while establishing strong working relationships within all areas of the healthcare industry.

Knowledge Base

SAC partners have worked for both government agencies and large insurance companies. This experience gives our clients an edge in their litigation efforts. Prior to founding SAC, managing partner, Joy Stephenson-Laws, was employed by the California Department of Health and Human Services where she was responsible for a number of administrative decisions which affected providers in the Medicare and Medi-Cal area. Richard Lovich was in-house counsel for large commercial insurance companies and was responsible for a number of policies in that area.
